Do you find yourself being passed over for promotions at work? Have you ever wondered why the person chosen for a special project was selected instead of you? Many people in today’s workforce find themselves in this position repeatedly. They wonder what to do about it. Sometimes they complain to a co-worker or talk to their spouse, but, over time, they just chalk it up to someone being better than they are or in the “inner circle.”Very easily, Six Sigma is your best bet for maximizing return on investment, more so in troubled economic times. However, the success of implementation depends much on its achieved degree of alignment with the problems. Ifs and buts not withstanding, there are stories to support both sides of the issue. First let’s consider the negative side of the story. Why Do We Hear Failures To Achieve Projected ROIs On Six Sigma Investments? We hear failure stories not just because they are reported but because they occur. It may be that there are other forces at work here—forces under the control of anyone who wants to get ahead in business.Toronto, ON, Nov, 2006 - There are many applications for how RFID systems help manufacturers and warehouse operations; these applications can be as unique as the enterprise they help. However, there are some common areas in these industries related to their logistics of getting the finished product to the customer or to another distribution center. After auditing the firm’s marketing practices, he determined that the old company name had to go. The old name too closely resembled another firm’s moniker and it was causing confusion in the marketplace. With new ownership at the firm, a change seemed to make sense. He called me looking for some ideas for a new name and I gladly helped; in fact, we came up with a new company name that could be used as his URL with a dotcom suffix. However, in the Web 2.0 world, search engines are smarter, and the old tricks won’t get you anywhere. If you read many blogs or forums, you have probably seen plenty of debates about keyword density. Many people believe that Google likes a keyword density of two to three percent, while Yahoo and MSN prefer six to eight percent (some even go as high as twelve). With all the disagreement on the subject, how are you supposed to decide what density to use?At SoftwareProjects, we believe that when you’re writing content, keyword density shouldn’t even cross your mind. What did he think he would enjoy doing? This was the interesting part to Sam. When he thought about it, he could easily see how his knowledge of accounting coupled with his ability to produce presentations and his confidence in giving the presentations could lead to a role in helping managers prepare their budget presentations or a role in training non-financial managers to understand the basics of financial reporting. As Sam began to take his personal inventory, he was becoming clearer on what he had accomplished and in what direction he might like to go. He also found that documenting his inventory helped him think about his work assignments in new ways, and he began to feel that he had really accomplished more than he ever thought. Sam knew, though, that simply updating his resume or skill inventory in the company database or in his professional resume wouldn’t be enough to open up new opportunities. He asked Sam to think about a time when he had accomplished something significant and was not acknowledged for the work. It didn’t take long for Sam to recall the meeting he had had with an HR manager who didn’t understand how to read and understand the company’s online general ledger package. Sam explained the package and helped the HR manager determine the most significant fields to analyze. While the HR manager had been very complimentary to Sam after Sam had helped the manager put together her executive presentation, other than an email of thanks the HR manager sent to Sam, no one else knew Sam’s contribution to this project. When Sam provided this example to the A/P manager, he said, “How do you expect anyone to know what you
