About the Ballet Company
The San Elijo Dance & Music Academy is performing the Nutcracker Ballet. This academy is well-known for preparing dance students for the most prestigious dance companies and schools in the nation, such as:
Julliard; Twyla Tharp; Joffrey Ballet; Boston Ballet; American Ballet Theater; New York City Ballet; Pacific Northwest Ballet; San Francisco Ballet; and others.
About the Orchestra
The music portion of the Nutcracker Ballet is being performed by the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra’s Symphony. Conducted by Mr. Robert Gilson, this symphony is composed of primarly high school students. It's an advanced full symphonic orchestra, having the complete range of instruments, including all standard strings, winds, brass, and percussion. The literature performed by this group is well-known symphonic music as it was originally composed, not arrangements, and provides a challenge for its talented students. The Symphony Orchestra provides experience in the rehearsal and performance of symphonies, overtures, concerti and other appropriate literature, and has a very extensive performance schedule throughout the year.
